One question which has been driving every gamer crazy for quite some time is whether there will be a Witcher 4 or not. Let's cut the chase and come straight to the point!
A few developments have taken place in regard to Witcher 4 in the past few days. CD Projekt RED has officially confirmed that a new Witcher game is in development and would be using Unreal Engine 5 as part of a collaboration with EPIC GAMES.

Witcher 4 Release Date

  • In a press release on March 2022, CD Projekt RED confirmed that a new Witcher game is under development.
  • In a recent post, their president mentioned that they have concluded the planning phase for the new Witcher game.
  • In a recent video released by CD Projekt RED, one of their executives mentioned that the game has entered the pre-production phase.

With all the information gathered so far, we now know, for sure, that there will be a new Witcher game. We can assume that it will be named Witcher 4 as CDPR did not mention the exact title of the new witcher game.

However, the Release Date of the game has not been revealed by CDPR. They did not reveal how long would it take for them to develop the game. Because of fact that the game is in a pre-production phase currently, it could take a few years to release.

Witcher 4 Unreal Engine 5
CD Projekt Red had officially confirmed that they would be using Unreal Engine 5 for developing the new Witcher game. This time, they are collaborating with Epic Games and would be using their Engine as a part of their partnership.

Previously, CDPR had used REDEngine, which is their own engine, to develop games including Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.

Now, they won't be using REDEngine to develop Witcher 4. Instead, would be using the latest Unreal Engine 5 which is one of the most capable engines in today's time. In simple words, it means more realistic graphics and visual designs.

Will geralt be in witcher 4?

Till now Geralt had been the protagonist in all the Witcher games. Be it The Witcher, The Witcher 2 - Assassins of Kings, and The Witcher 3 - Wild Hunt, we used to play as Geralt.
CDPR has not given any details on whether Geralt will be there in Witcher 4 or not.

There is a possibility that Geralt won't be there in Witcher 4 considering the ending we saw in The Witcher 3 - Wild Hunt. The game ended on a sweet note. If you get the best ending, in the end, a cutscene is shown where Geralt meets Ciri in an inn and gifts her a new Witcher sword.
Moreover, At the end of DLC, it is shown that Geralt has a mansion and is living a happy retired life with Yennefer (if you preferred Yennefer over Triss in the overall choices ).

Considering the fact that Geralt gifted a new Witcher Sword to Ciri in Witcher 3, there is a possibility of Ciri being the leading character of Witcher 4.
It could be possible that we might see Geralt as a side Character.

It is also possible that we might see new characters this time. Meaning, a new protagonist, a new Witcher character.
CDPR has shown a teaser image of a Witcher's medallion covered in snow. Since it is partially covered in frost it is unclear what exactly it looks like. Upon observing closely, it does resemble the image of a cat. It is possible that the main character in Witcher 4 would belong to the School of the Cat, unlike Geralt who belonged to the School of the Wolf.

We personally, would like to see Geralt as the leading character in Witcher 4 as well. We really like the character 'Geralt of Rivia' and a game without him would look incomplete. It is difficult for us Witcher fans to play a new Witcher game without Geralt being the main character. But, that is just our point of view.

Whatever happens, one thing is confirmed, we would get to experience a new Witcher game in the coming years. We hope it would turn out to be a masterpiece like its predecessor.
